Mechatronic Systems Engineering

The School of Mechatronics Systems Engineering was founded to meet the ever-changing needs of today’s high-tech industries. Mechatronics is a dynamic, multidisciplinary subject combining three engineering fields: mechanical, electrical, and systems engineering. This highly integrated approach creates smart, innovative, and efficient solutions for a wide range of high-tech engineering problems in today’s society. Our training is hands-on and relevant to the marketplace, and our faculty and students collaborate deeply with industry partners to apply their research and development in the real world. Students in each year stay together throughout the program in a supportive environment that encourages teamwork, communication, creativity, innovation, and excellence. With a rich entrepreneurial edge, our program also features invaluable hands-on experience via our celebrated co-op program.

Software Systems

Software Systems is an applied specialization of Computing Science located at SFU’s Surrey campus, the heart of Surrey’s emerging tech hub. In addition to traditional theoretical studies, our curriculum highly emphasizes the creation of efficient and effective software. By offering project-based and team-oriented courses, we are encouraging our students to develop the skills for success in the industry. Software Systems focuses on gaining experience through practical, hands-on applications while building upon their knowledge of computing science. With these skill sets, some of our alumni have gone on to tackle new and innovative projects, and others have pursued careers at renowned technological companies such as Apple, Facebook, Samsung, and SAP.
